Pleasant View Elementary School’s library will benefit from a donation of $151,172.97 from the family of a late Cheatham County educator and her husband.

PVES Principal Keith Miller accepted the donation on behalf of the late Douglas and Opal Shearron during a ceremony at the school on Wednesday, April 11.

Opal Shearron started her 33-year career in the Cheatham County School District in 1971 at PVES. She taught at the school for many years before being named the district’s Chapter I and Materials Supervisor in 1994. She retired in 2004.

After she died in 2007, the PVES library was named in her honor as the Opal Nichols Shearron Memorial Library.

Miller said PVES has some big plans for the donation. In particular, the school plans to make some technology upgrades and make it a true media center.

He added that the school will create a committee to consider how to best utilize the donation.
