On behalf of Pegram Fine Arts Magnet Elementary School, Principal Detra Emery and School Resource Officer Ricky Mallard are excited to announce that the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) will be added as a Fine Art and as a club in the upcoming weeks.
A special thank you to Principal Emery, Director of Schools Dr. Cathy Beck and Sheriff Mike Breedlove for the outpouring of support for this program and for the youth throughout our community.
Sheriff Breedlove has worked tirelessly to protect our communities and youth throughout Cheatham County, and during his tenure as Sheriff, has placed a School Resource Officer in every school.
Mallard is very active throughout the community, coaching youth baseball and football, and wanted a way to reach all young people.
This activity that does not discriminate based on popularity, athletic skill, gender, size or academic ability. It’s a different kind of team sport and is open to any student. Teams come together around one thing: archery.
The NASP is an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students. Through it, students learn focus, self-control, discipline, patience and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life.
Mallard reached out to the community for funding to start the program and immediately had the support that was needed.
We would like to thank Kim James and Michelle Upchurch of Realist Realty, Eddie’s Market, Harpeth Community Mart, Finch’s Country Store, Subway, Cody and Chelsea Smith and Earl Bentz for funding this program and making this a reality.
Mallard, along with Mike Parsley, received training through NASP and are now certified basic archery instructors who look forward to teaching your children.
